Highway patrol to increase enforcement for Labor Day weekend

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will have a trooper stationed every 20 miles along I-70 and Highway 54 as a part of its increased enforcement for Labor Day weekend.

MSHP’s counting period also starts at 6 p.m. Friday, which means troopers will be counting every crash, traffic violation and more until Monday at 11:59 p.m.

MSHP called this year’s Labor Day enforcement period Operation C.A.R.E.: Combined Accident Reduction Effort.

Troopers said Labor Day weekend brings in a lot of traffic, so having a trooper every 20 miles should reduce any traffic backup and if there are any crashes, they will be cleared faster.

Troopers also said that any holiday weekend usually means, unfortunately, more drunk drivers may be on the roads. With extra enforcement, troopers hope to get those drivers off the road quicker.
