“Right to Work” bill pushed out of law, onto ballot

Senate Bill 182, otherwise known as the “Right to Work” bill, was scheduled to go into effect today but instead will be put on a ballot thanks to petitions filed against it.

According to one labor group, over 300,000 signatures were submitted from across the state this month in protest of the bill. The result: the bill is no longer due to become law, and voters will have a chance to either pass or reject it in Nov. 2018.

Last year Democratic Gov. Nixon vetoed a similar bill, but Republican Gov. Greitens believes such legislation is necessary to make Missouri more business-friendly.

The bill’s opposition fear it threatens employees’ ability to collectively negotiate and bargain with employers.
