Harvey’s impacts on mid-Missouri

Harvey has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but the system continues to provide the coast with widespread heavy rainfall. Harvey is expected to return to the Gulf of Mexico, providing it with plenty of moisture and energy to track back inland through Louisiana. We can expect even higher rainfall totals from the decaying tropical storm as we head through the work week, areas in Texas and Louisiana could receive in excess of 10 more inches.

Mid-Missouri is expected to have a mild and dry week, but we could see some minor impacts from Harvey as we head into the weekend. Models are showing the majority of the rainfall to stay well to the south of mid-Missouri through the week, but we could see some increased cloud cover south of I-70 by Thursday.

Heading into the weekend, one model is showing remnants of Harvey making it’s way into mid-Missouri. Rich moisture moving north with this system looks like showers could get going south of I-70 by Saturday afternoon.

This far out it’s often very difficult to predict the track with systems like these as they make their way inland. As we head through the week, the track of the decaying system will be more clear. We will continue to update and track the chance of showers as we head into the weekend.
