Missouri Task Force One begins search and rescue in Rockport, Texas
The 47-member team from Missouri is now in one of the cities hit hardest by the deadly Hurricane Harvey.
Missouri Task Force One arrived in Rockport, Texas Sunday morning and began performing “wide area searches and conducting welfare checks on residences with local law enforcement,” according to the Boone County Fire Protection District.
The small city has a population of fewer than 9,000 and is located just northeast of Corpus Christi.
Hurricane Harvey was a Category 4 storm when it made landfall just a few miles away from Rockport. The city experienced 130 mph winds that cause widespread damage.
“No word on how long Missouri Task Force One will be there,” said Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp. “However, our team will continue as long as they are needed.”
