Where to buy safe eclipse-viewing glasses in Columbia

ABC 17 News has been telling you for months you need special eclipse-viewing glasses to protect yourself from permanent eye damage, including blindness.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources recalled a specific brand of glasses Friday that state parks were selling for viewing the eclipse. It couldn’t be confirmed that the glasses meet ISO and CE certification or came from a recommended manufacturer.

DNR advises anyone who bought a pair of PMS ProMart glasses should return them to any state park, historic site store or gift shop to receive a refund.

The American Astronomical Society said that it updated its safety advice “in response to alarming reports” of unsafe glasses selling online.

It said buyers should be skeptical of glasses even if they’re stamped with an ISO seal, which has been used in the past to indicate which glasses comply with standards set by the International Organization for Standardization.

In response, the AAS posted a list of verified vendors and websites where verified eclipse glasses are sold.

The Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau on Friday updated its list of places to buy safe and approved eclipse-viewing glasses in Columbia:
