A short lived heat wave before a chance of storms
On Monday temperatures will be seasonal with only slightly humid conditions as winds will remain out of the northwest. It will be a pleasant and comfortable day as highs top out in the upper 80s. This comfortable air mass for the start of the work week won’t last long. As we head into Tuesday and Wednesday, we will see changing conditions as winds begin to shift once again out of the south.
Heat will begin to build from the west as an upper level ridge expands eastwardly once again. Winds will shift out of the southwest starting on Tuesday, allowing heat and humidity to be on the increase. Dew points will rise into the 70s with temperatures in the mid 90s.
This will allow for heat indices to reach into the upper 90s on Tuesday, breaking into the triple digits on Wednesday. With this heat, we could potentially see a heat advisory go into effect for parts of mid-Missouri on Wednesday.
This heat wave will be short lived as an upper level disturbance will help push a cold front into mid-Missouri by late Wednesday.
Ahead of the front there will be a chance for storms through the overnight hours. As of now, these scattered storms could be severe, providing a slight risk to the northeast.
The return of northwesterly flow on Thursday will allow for cooler temperatures as we close out the work week which will lead into the weekend.
