5-car crash in Phelps County kills one

A 21-year-old man was killed and several others were taken to the hospital after crash on I-44 just outside St. James Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a semi-truck lost control crashing into two other cars. Troopers said Eric Uhrhan, of Scott City, tried to avoid the crash by changing lanes hitting Glen Paasch, 43, of Rosebud, Mo., on his motorcycle.

The towed unit of the semi-truck then hit Uhrhan’s car, causing it to overturn. Uhrhan was pronounced dead at the scene. Paash was thrown from his bike and flown to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi and two other people were also taken to the hospital.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, St. James Police Department and Cuba Police Department assisted troopers at the scene.
