Dangerous heat building into Mid-Missouri

TODAY: This afternoon will once again see temperatures climb into the lower 90s under mostly sunny skies. With dew points in the 70-75 degree range, it won’t be out of the question to see heat indices approach the triple digits today. While this afternoon won’t be brutally hot, it will start the trend of what will be a dangerously hot week across Mid-Missouri. Some relief will come by the evening with temperatures bearable in the lower 80s and a gentle easterly wind around 3-6 mph.

TONIGHT: Dry conditions will persist for the overnight hours with mostly clear skies. Temperatures tonight will drop into the lower 70s with winds out of the southeast under 8 mph.

EXTENDED: The building ridge from the west will continue to allow dry and hot weather each and every day. An Excessive Heat Watch will go into affect for most of Mid-Missouri as we head into Tuesday afternoon, which will set the stage for the dangerous heat that is set to sweep through Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will reach the mid 90s by Tuesday and into the upper 90s by Wednesday through Friday. Heat indices will climb back into the triple digits starting Tuesday through the end of the week. It won’t be out of the question to see some areas hit 110+ this week for heat indices. Take precautions to stay cool and hydrated. The heat holds on this week, but there is signs that as we head into next week that the ridge will back off and we’re likely to see a few showers and storms.
