One person arrested in connection to shooting at Roxys in Columbia

UPDATE: 10 a.m.: Columbia police arrested Tre Deshaun Banks, 24, for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to police, a sergeant on foot patrol in the area heard the gun shot shortly before 1 coming from Roxys. An employee for the club pointed out Banks to the sergeant and said Banks shot the round into the ceiling.

Police say Banks took off running out of the club and down Broadway. He was arrested after a short chase at 10th and Broadway.

Officers say they found marijuana and a handgun magazine on Banks. Banks then told the officer where the handgun was and police found it in that location.

The police investigation determined two groups of men were arguing in the club. While staff was trying to get the groups outside, two men started arguing with each other when the shot happened.

No one was hurt.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police were called out to Roxys in downtown just before 1:00 a.m. Friday for reports of shots fired inside.

ABC 17 News spoke to a woman who was in the nightclub when it happened. She said it started with two people fighting and one person shot a gun into the air. She said there wasn’t a mass panic and when police got there, everyone was told to leave.

When police got to the bar, officers reportedly found a shell casing at the top of a staircase.

A medic was also called to the scene, but there are no reports of injuries.
