Child dies after being hit by car in northeast Columbia

UPDATE 7/11: The 9-year-old child that died after being hit by a car has been identified as Kimberlynn Elizabeth Bartlett, of Kirksville, Mo. Her obituary can be found here.

UPDATE: The Columbia Police Department has confirmed the 9-year-old has died.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The driver was traveling south in the 3300 block of Oakland Gravel Road. Three people, including the child, were walking across the road from the west side of the street to the east side of the street when the collision occurred.

ORIGINAL: ABC 17 News confirms one child went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday after getting hit by a car in northeast Columbia.

Police do not have an exact age, but they know the victim was crossing the street with an adult on Oakland Gravel Road just south of Blue Ridge Road.

The driver was heading southbound. More details are expected from officers throughout the day.
