Severe threat reduced for tonight’s storms
Heading into Thursday Evening we have seen a decreased threat for severe weather as storms are expected to move through mid-Missouri this evening. Heavy precipitation from this morning has eaten some of the atmosphere’s energy and the air mass may not be able to recover quickly for tonight’s round of storms.
All of mid-Missouri has been decreased to a slight threat for severe weather. However, it is still important to be weather aware as we head into the evening since all modes for severe weather are still possible.
Damaging wind and hail continue to be the primary threat, holding a 15% chance through most of mid-Missouri for both threats. Winds may be exceed 60 mph with the potential for hail 1″ or greater.
There is a tornado threat for a good portion of mid-Missouri, but it remains a low threat. This morning the Storm Prediction Center has reduced the threat to a 2% risk for mid-Missouri to see an isolated tornado.
Latest track is showing storms to arrive in northwest Missouri from 7-9 PM, exiting to the south by early Friday morning.
Friday afternoon into the evening may see isolated storms south of I-70. The slight risk for severe weather south of I-70 remains intact, with a marginal risk to the north.
