Cooper County man arrested near Tipton on drug charges

Moniteau County Deputies were on Round Hill Road just north of Tipton Wednesday, trying to locate a wanted fugitive.

Deputies said they arrived to see 40-year-old Steven Fairfax jumping into a vehicle and driving away.

“Fairfax fled in the vehicle across some fields just north of the residence until he came to a stop in the wooded area,” Sheriff Tony Wheatley said. “Fairfax then exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot with deputies giving chase.”

Deputies caught up with Fairfax who they say was hiding in a patch of foliage.

K-9 units searched the area and found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia that deputies say the suspect had tried to hide.

Fairfax is from Bunceton, Missouri and is on a 24-hour hold in the Moniteau County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest by fleeing.
