Avoid mosquitoes during the rainy weather with this tip

The Columbia/Boone County Health Department is reminding people how to prevent mosquito bites during the rainy weather.

One way to avoid the blood-thirsty creatures is to simply remove standing water.

Health officials recommend removing the water at least once a week or after every rain.

“It’s also important, not only when you dump the standing water, to also scrub out all of the containers because the eggs, the mosquito eggs, will still stay on those edges of the containers unless there scrubbed off,” said Eric Stann with the health department.

People should also use EPA-registered bug repellent or wear long sleeves to avoid the creatures known to carry the West Nile Virus.
