Confirmed tornado in Morgan County Saturday afternoon

The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes touched down in Morgan County Saturday afternoon.

The NWS said one tornado touched down about a mile north of Sunrise Beach. It was 50 yards wide and carried winds estimated at 90 mph.

The second tornado touched down approximately two miles to the north-northeast of Sunrise Beach. This tornado had a larger path of 300 yards. Winds were up to 90 mph causing numerous trees to be uprooted, along with roof damage.

Morgan County Emergency Management said Saturday’s storm damage more than 50 homes and injured one person. Nearly 1,000 people were without power at one point.

Residents in Gravois Mills said their power was out until 5 a.m. Sunday.

ABC 17 News crews drove through several cities, from Otterville to Gravois Mills. They noticed the further south they drove, the more damage they saw.

People in Moniteau, Osage, Morgan, Miller and Camden counties saw more damage from large hail and strong winds than Boone, Cooper, Callaway and Cole counties.
