Battling the Opioid Crisis: Town Hall Meeting
Opioid drugs like heroin and prescription pain killers are the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, since 1999 these deaths have more than quadrupled and prescriptions for opioid pain killers have gone up dramatically during that time despite no change in the overall amount of pain or painful conditions Americans report.
Mid-Missouri mirrors the national trends when it comes to what many local, state and national leaders call an “opioid epidemic.” ABC 17 News and the Zimmer Radio Group’s 93.9 The Eagle are teaming up to give a forum to people concerned about the issue in our area. We are holding a town hall style live broadcast from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25. A panel of three experts including a DEA Agent and a local doctor who lost his son to an overdose will answer our questions about this health crisis.
We know this affects everyone and many of you have questions. Please submit yours on this topic here and, if selected, we’ll ask our panelists for their insights on your behalf. You can tune in for answers on ABC 17 KMIZ or 93.9 The Eagle Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
