UM Board of Curators meeting amid search for MU chancellor
The UM Board of Curators is meeting this afternoon amid the search for a new MU chancellor.
Currently, Dr. Garnett Stokes is serving as MU interim chancellor. She said in a budget forum last week that she is not one of the candidates to fill the permanent role. She also said the new chancellor is expected to be named by the end of this month.
Prior to Stokes, Hank Foley served as MU interim chancellor. He took the job after former MU chancellor Bowen Loftin resigned in November 2015 amid protests on campus at the University of Missouri.
The curators meeting also comes just days after MU officials released a budget proposal that calls for the elimination of more than 300 jobs. Of those, 181 are occupied positions, including 32 retirees, 38 contract non-renewals, 84 layoffs and 16 voluntary separations. Additionally, 147 vacant positions will not be filled.
It’s unclear what the curators will be discussing this afternoon. Their meeting starts at 1 p.m., and they go into closed session almost immediately.
The curators are also meeting tomorrow afternoon. They will meet for a closed session, followed by a public finance committee meeting. ABC 17 News will be attending that meeting as well.
