Stove top causes kitchen fire in Columbia home

A Columbia home sustained minor damage after a kitchen fire Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to Maple Grove Way, near Bethel Street in south Columbia around 8 a.m. Saturday.

Fire officials told our crews on scene that one woman was home at the time. She was not injured and was woken up by a smoke alarm.

Officials said the source of the fire was a stove top. We’re told the woman will have to stay with family and friends for a few days before she can return to her home.

A dollar amount for the damage has not yet been released.
