Broadway Hotel moving forward with TIF process; wants to expand
The Broadway Hotel is moving forward with their expansion plans with the help of the city.
Monday night, the Columbia City Council approved the Broadway Hotel to formally apply for a tax increment financing (TIF) that would help plans for expansion.
Once the application is received, it will be reviewed by the City’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission, which will hold public hearings as part of their review process.
A recommendation will then be made by the TIF Commission to approve or deny the application.
The Broadway Hotel’s expansion plans include 80 more guest rooms, extra meeting space and a boardroom. There will be an additional tower with a ballroom and reception area on the roof. Proposed walkways on the fourth and eighth floors will connect the two towers.
The project is estimated to cost about $20 million.
The hotel owner, David Parmley, has told ABC 17 News the expansion would help triple the amount of space at the hotel currently has, which would help the local economy.
Parmley said he hopes to attract more adults to counterbalance the number of college students.
