Driver arrested after suspected DUI crash in Macon County

A 21-year-old driver is facing possible DWI charges after a single-car crash in Macon County leaves his passenger with serious injuries.

Troopers arrested Alexander Rice around 3:00 a.m. Sunday. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway V, just south of Highway PP.

According to the crash report, Rice drove off the left side of the road before driving off an embankment and then hitting a tree. He and his sole passenger both sustained serious injuries.

His passenger was also airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia.

Arrest records say Rice has been released from the hospital.
