Minor cuts two fellow students at Fulton Middle School with pocket knife
A 12 year old boy has been charged with two counts of second degree assault after cutting two fellow students at Fulton Middle School.
The assault happened on Wednesday afternoon. Officers were called to Fulton Middle School, where they identified the 12 year old in the Principal’s office.
The boy had cut two other students, ages 11 and 12, on the hand with a small pocket knife. Both students were treated at the school nurse’s office.
According to a letter released to parents this afternoon, the students intentionally harmed two students. Superintendent Jacque Cowherd told ABC 17 News a motive is not known right now.
Cowherd said weapon incidents don’t happen very often at the school but occasionally they do have to discipline students.
“We have incidents just like everyone else,” Cowherd said.
Cowherd said the student could face up to 10 day suspension, among other punishments that are given by the judge.
ABC 17 News researched and found about 22 weapon incidents happened within Fulton School District, according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website.
Fulton Public Schools released the following statements to the parents of the students:
“Fulton Parents,
Earlier today at Fulton Middle School, a student intentionally harmed two innocent students with a small knife. The two victims were treated by the school nurse, parents were contacted and the students remained at school. The perpetrator is in police custody. All students at FMS are safe!
It is believed that several non-involved students were aware the perpetrator was in possession of the small knife. Please encourage your child to report any unsafe behaviors to any school staff member.
