Woman arrested after stealing from Walmart, leaving child at the scene

A woman was arrested on Friday for two counts of child abuse, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and felony stealing after stealing from a Columbia Walmart and leaving her child there.

Demetria Roland stole a t-shirt, a cell phone and four pairs of pants from the Walmart on 415 Conley Road in Columbia. When Roland was confronted by an employee, she ran from the store, leaving her child behind.

Columbia Police contacted Roland by phone, when she told officer not to charge her.

When police took Roland’s child into protective custody, police met another one of Roland’s children, who said that Roland was high on PCP that morning, got in an altercation with her and threatened to kill her.

Roland was arrested by the Columbia Police Department.
