Preview: “Emergency OD: Answering the Call”

As opioid overdoses continue to claim lives, ABC 17’s Marissa Hollowed is taking a deeper look into what local emergency responders are calling a difficult problem to solve.

“Not every time we get there, we can reverse it. It may be too late,” said assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Department.

Once emergency responders arrive, there are many more factors to consider.

“What we’re mainly worried about is our safety,” said ambulance supervisor Jake Waller. “You’re never exactly sure what you’re walking into.”

Still, the journey to becoming clean is far from over once the emergency responders leave.

Hollowed will also take you inside rehabilitation centers to show you the recovery process.

“Emergency O.D: Answering the Call” airs Thursday, April 27 on ABC 17 News at 10 on KMIZ.
