Kidnapping, murder suspect listed on Columbia’s ‘Most Wanted’ list

A woman who is wanted for kidnapping and murder charges has been added to the Columbia Police Department’s “Most Wanted” list.

Mackenzie Quiovers was released from the Boone County jail on March 17 to receive medical treatment. As part of her ROR bond, she was required to return to the jail once the treatment was complete. According to court documents, she was released from the hospital the next morning but did not return to the jail.

On April 19, CPD released a “Most Wanted” flier that included Quiovers photo.

Quiovers was involved in a crash that killed a Columbia teenager in the beginning of March.

The crash stemmed from a custody dispute between the children’s mother, Demetres Washington — who is also charged with kidnapping and murder — and aunt, Dianna Mays.

The children’s grandmother, Shirley Cruz, said she hopes Quiovers turns herself in soon so they all can move from the incident. She believes Quiovers wasn’t familiar with the situation between Washington and her children.

“I don’t blame you because you didn’t know what was going on,” Cruz said. “I need you to turn yourself in and work through this.”

Cruz said she hasn’t spoken to Washington since before the crash.

“I think about her a lot,” Cruz said. “I know what she’s going through. I know she loves her kids. There’s no doubt. So maybe by the grace of God we can heal.”

According to CPD, for a person to be added to the “Most Wanted” flier, they must have a warrant with a bond of at least $5,000. CPD said these are typically felony offenses though some may be probation violations or failure to appear warrants.

Quiovers was added to the department’s “Most Wanted” list after investigators said doing so would not hinder their search for her.
