Judge blocks abortion-restricting rules for Missouri, AG Hawley will appeal
On Wednesday, a federal judge followed through on his promise to issue a preliminary injunction to block abortion-restricting rules in Missouri.
Judge Howard Sachs said he was bound by the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling last year that struck down similar Texas guidelines.
Planned Parenthood had argued the limitations were medically unnecessary, while Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley said they protected women seeking abortions.
“This decision was wrong,” said Hawley. “I will appeal. Missouri has an obligation to do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of women undergoing medical procedures in state licensed medical facilities.”
Planned Parenthood said the ruling will allow them to expand abortion access to four additional health centers in the state.
