Columbia man files age discrimination lawsuit against Quaker Oats

A Columbia man has filed a lawsuit against Quaker Oats for age discrimination.

Calvin M. Brown was a full-time food packager for Quaker Oats from 2003 to 2016. During his employment, Brown said Quaker Oats changed their policies and provided incentives for employees 55 years old and up to resign by buying their retirement benefits from them.

When Brown turned 55, he refused to take the deal. According to the lawsuit documents, Brown’s boss suspended him on June 8, 2016 for a “routine and otherwise insignificant error in food packaging.”

Brown was fired by his boss on June 17, 2016 “without complying with Quaker rules and policies,” and has since filed the lawsuit.
