Home a ‘total loss’ after structure fire in Boone County
UPDATE, 4:15 p.m.: Fire officials with the Boone County Fire Protection District said a home in west Boone County is a total loss this afternoon after a fire.
According to Captain Martina Pounds, the homeowner returned to find the roof engulfed in flames. When firefighters arrived, the fire had moved to the back portion of the house.
The family dog was in the home at the time and died in the fire. No one else was hurt.
Pounds said firefighters will monitor possible hot spots throughout the rest of Sunday.
She said they don’t have a cause but there will be an investigation tomorrow. There is no damage estimate at this time.
ORIGINAL: The Boone County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire on Hickory Grove School Road around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Multiple fire units responded to the area.
Boone Electric Cooperative crews also responded to the scene because there was a power line down.
ABC 17 News crews said a lot of smoke was coming from the home.
