Glasgow High School hosts anti-bullying seminar
Back in February, the Glasgow School district changed the way it handles bullying after it was found negligent in Kenneth Suttner’s death.
In December Suttner committed suicide because of bullying.
The anti-bullying seminar was one of the outlets students could express their concerns and sadness.
The speaker, Mettie Spiess said, “I knew that in this particular case, healing was needed soon as possible.”
Spiess also believed the students needed to learn signs for those in need, such as changing personalities and those who started keeping to themselves.
During the seminar, students were asked to write down friend’s names who could help them and support them if needed.
Spiess also spoke to parents by suggesting to keep a close eye on their children’s social media. She said if they ever saw bullying they should record the evidence and report it to the school.
The seminar lasted for an hour and a half and ended with students asking questions about furthering their knowledge on bullying and suicide.
At the end of the day Spiess said, “I see only good things from this town.”
