Missouri House approves ‘Real ID’ legislation

The Missouri House of Representatives approved a committee version of HB151 Thursday which would give residents the option to obtain a license that complies with federal identification requirements.

The House voted 99-40 Thursday, advancing the bill to the Missouri Senate.

Gov. Eric Greitens told reporters Tuesday that he wants to see what the White house does with the “Real ID” law to see if it will remain constant with the Obama administration.

“It’s very important to me that every person in the state of Missouri has the option of having an ID that will allow them to fly,” Greitens said. “It’s also important for us to make sure that we protect people’s privacy.”

Missouri Senate leadership echoed the governor’s statement saying the next move should be that of the Trump administration.

“If there’s no action taken on that, then you’ll see that debate come back up on the floor again where Missourians would have an option if they want to go that route,” said state Sen. Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City.
