Columbia sees snowfall; MoDOT and Public Works crews monitor road conditions

Snow started to fall in Columbia around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, but the snow was not sticking to most roadways because the cement temperature was above freezing.

ABC 17 News checked in with MoDOT, Columbia Public Works and Boone County Public Works officials to find out what crews were planning for the weekend.

Columbia Public Works crews started working at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Central MoDOT crews started working at midnight, then, depending on their location, more came in around 2 a.m.

Boone County Public Works said they would have crews come in as soon as the snow started to fall.

All crews monitored the road conditions. Officials said that crews would treat the roads as they thought was necessary.

MoDOT officials said that crews had to be careful about treating the roads because the grounds are warm, so there is a possibility any treatment would melt away.

Road crews will continue to monitor the weather and roads throughout the weekend.
