Warmest February on record, winter in top ten warmest

February 2017 is the warmest February on record since records began in 1890 with an average temperature of 45.9 degrees, 10.5 degrees above average! We had 5 days which reached record high temperatures. It also came in tied with 9 other years for the least snowiest with only a trace of snow for the month. Rainfall also came in low with only .21″ which puts February 2017 in the 4th driest on record.

Meteorological winter (Dec- Feb) in 2016-17 came in warmer than average with an overall winter temperature of 37.8 degrees which is 5.6 degrees above average. Although December came in slightly cooler than average, January and February were well above the 30 year average temperatures.

Compare this to last winter of 2015-16 which was also warm, coming in at 37.5 degrees, well above the thirty year average of 32.2 degrees with January coming in coldest.

This puts the past two winters in the top 10 warmest. This winter comes in 3rd behind the winters of 1889-90 and 1931-32. Last winter came in 6th warmest.
