Barnes & Noble buys Columbia’s MBS Textbook Exchange

One of Columbia’s largest employers will soon have new ownership.

On Tuesday Barnes & Noble announced it will purchase MBS Textbook Exchange, LLc which is located near the Columbia mall.

The agreement is worth more than $174 million.

Together, MBS and Barnes & Noble will operate more than 1,490 physical and virtual bookstores.

“We have worked closely with MBS for over 30 years, and we are thrilled to bring our two complementary companies together,” said Max J. Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble Education.
