Fulton Public Schools warns about retaliation against people who report misconduct

Fulton Public Schools sent out a release Wednesday afternoon about the consequences for retaliating against any “student, staff, parent, patron” for reporting misconduct, specifically in regards to Fulton High School (FHS).

On Feb. 10, the school district alerted parents about possible “inappropriate electronic contact” between a high school staff employee and a high school student.

In the statement signed by Superintendent Jacque A. Cowherd and Principal Chris Mincher, Fulton Public Schools warns of students losing school privileges, getting suspended or getting expelled for engaging in bullying.

“I wish I didn’t have to send it out,” Cowherd said. “I was frustrated in having to go this far. I thought we could keep things calm and control it, but we can’t so we have to address it.”

Cowherd said the bullying has not been physical and has only involved online attacks. He said students involved in the bullying have been addressed.

In response, the district has eliminated its “Bring Your Own Device” policy. Students in grades 6-12 will no longer be allowed to bring their own laptops to school and will be required to use a district-approved Chrome Book for academic use.
