Columbia police looking for one after break-in involving gun, two in custody

UPDATE: Columbia Police have released the names of the two suspects in custody.

Officers saw two males running out of the residence and caught one, 21-year-old Deandra Mekel Buchanan Jr.. He was arrested for Burglary in the second degree.

Officers saw another suspect, 17-year-old LaJavion A. Redden, jump out of the second story window. He was arrested for burglary in the second degree and receiving stolen property.

Police said that they found a stolen handgun where Redden landed after he jumped out of the window.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police are looking for a suspect right now in east Columbia after a break in involving a gun.

ABC 17 News first started hearing reports of about a burglary around 5:15 Tuesday morning.

Police are on the scene in the 600 block of South William Street, in the east campus neighborhood. Officers on scene say three people kicked in the door to a home in the area and went in. They say they then tried to run when officers arrived. Officers were able to take two of the suspects into custody. Police tell us they did find a gun and are now searching a suspicious vehicle.
