Derby Ridge Elementary, Lange Middle, Oakland Middle and Center for Early Learning on lockdown

UPDATE: 10:53 p.m.: Columbia police confirmed to ABC 17 News at least one person was taken into custody after a short foot chase. Their identity or if charges will be filed hasn’t been released.

UPDATE 2:07 p.m.: According to dispatch notes, suspects fled the vehicle and officers engaged in a short foot pursuit. The modified lockdown has been lifted.

ORIGINAL STORY: ABC 17 News has confirmed with Columbia Public School that there is a modified lock down for Derby Ridge Elementary School, Oakland Middle School, Lange Middle School and the Center for Early Learning due to a suspect at large in the area. All of the students are safe.

A “modified lockdown” means that no one can enter or exit the building. The lockdown is still active at this time.
