Snow & bitterly cold air
Light snow will increase after 8 PM Wednesday evening and taper off early Thursday morning. Most snow accumulation will come before daybreak with temperatures in the teens. Snow will develop in northern Missouri and spread east along HWY 24 to Moberly 8-9 PM, gradually shifting to the southeast to near I-70 from 10-11 PM. By midnight, areas north of I-70 will have a half inch to an inch on the ground. Areas south of I-70 will see most snow accumulation from 2-8 AM. Snow ends by 5 AM north of I-70 and by 10 AM near I-44 with just flurries possible through noon.
The morning commute will be slow Thursday due to snow as temperatures hover in the mid to upper teens in the morning, only climbing to near 20 in the afternoon. The afternoon will be dry with clouds breaking up. Wind chills will stay in the single digits, dropping as low as 5 below zero by Friday morning.
A reinforcement of arctic air settles in Thursday night and Friday, keeping high temperatures in the upper teens Friday and single digit wind chills.
Although we warm slightly this weekend, we will still be below freezing through Sunday before a shift in the weather pattern sends warmer air in for the start of next week.
