City of Columbia approves transfer of Lynn Street property, land will be used for affordable housing

The City of Columbia has approved a transfer of land to the Columbia Community Land Trust board, which will be used to create affordable housing.

The land is located on Lynn Street. The council voted unanimously in favor of the agreement at their meeting last night, in addition to approving the initial funding to get the project underway.

Back in 2014, the council put $200,000 towards the project as a way to boost affordable housing in Central Columbia. The plan is to build four homes in the 100 block of Lynn Street, with a goal of being finished by the summer. Each home will be equipped with solar power, which will be paid with federal funding.
