U.S. Marine surprises mid-Missouri family after a year away

A U.S. Marine with family in mid-Missouri is now back home after being away for a year.

Lance Corporal Joshua Vance has been stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA.

His family is from Hermann in Gasconade County and tells ABC 17 News they had not seen him for a year.

His fiance, Ashley Hawkins, has been planning the surprise for almost six months. Vance’s family says his father and Hawkins picked him up from the airport in St. Louis this week before taking him to surprise the rest of the family.

Vance’s mother sent ABC 17 News the attached video of his various family members reactions to his surprise return home, which Hawkins recorded.

Vance’s mother says she was working at Frene Valley of Hermann Stone Bridge when Vance showed up and surprised her with the help of a coworker. She says Vance then went to Hermann High School where he surprised his two brothers and later went to see his grandparents.
