Power restored after some central Columbia residents left in dark

UPDATE: 10:40 p.m.: Power has been restored.

UPDATE, 8:30 p.m.: Connie Kacprowicz with Columbia Water and Light confirms the semi truck actually hit two power poles at Rollins Road and West Boulevard. She could not confirm if low hanging power lines were a cause for the collision. At least 150 customers are still without power.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia Water and Light crews believe recent winter weather is to blame for a power outage and destroyed power pole in central Columbia.

Just before 5:00 p.m., a call went out for a vehicle collision at the intersection of Rollins Road and West Boulevard South.

Water and Light crews on scene tell ABC 17 News they believe power lines were hanging lower than usual due to recent weather and a semi truck drove through, pulling the cables, and ripping down the power line.

According to the city’s power outage website, around 200 households were without power as of 7:00 p.m.

Our ABC 17 News crew saw at least eight trucks on the scene, working to restore power and the pole.
