Forecast to bring rain and possible mix holiday weekend
Two storm systems we’ll need to watch that will bring unsettled weather and a small chance for winter weather this weekend.
Friday Night: A low pressure system developing near Baja California will bring light rain starting Friday night and increase through Saturday morning. The Lake of the Ozarks has the better chance for rain Friday night, while areas north of I-70 have a lesser chance. Rain amounts at this time will range from 0.10″ near I-70 to up to 0.30″ near the Lake. Temperatures look to be above freezing from I-70 and south Friday night, while areas north could dip to the low 30s. If the rain lifts north enough, we’ll watch for ice possible developing for Saturday morning near HWY 24 and HWY 36.
Saturday Night-Sunday: Meanwhile a second low pressure system will be developing across the pacific northwest bringing light rain to Mid-Missouri Saturday night and during the day Sunday. The trailing cold front with this second low pressure system looks to bring the potential for moderate to heavy rain at times late Sunday night, mainly from 9PM-2AM where an additional 0.75″ to 1″ looks possible. A few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out either during this time. The European Forecast model is tracking this second system a little slower, indicating heavy rain and possibly a a few rumbles of thunder during the morning commute on Monday. We’ll wait and see until we are 36-48 hours until the event this weekend. Regardless rain looks to be the main impact for travelers this weekend.
