Saturday Evening, December 17
TONIGHT: By the later afternoon to evening hours, snow is going to be developing into mid-Missouri. A glaze of ice is possible on roads before the light snow moves in. Snow is likely from 2 until 9 PM, tapering off as it moves to the southeast. Snowfall amounts of a half inch to near an inch are expected with lowest amounts southeast. Areas northwest of HWY 54 will see an inch to two inches with highest amounts farther northwest. A wind chill advisory goes into effect this evening for all of Mid-Missouri (excluding Gasconade county). For areas along and south of the lake, the advisory is from 10 PM until noon Sunday. For areas north of the lake, the advisory is in effect from midnight until noon Sunday. Temperatures will drop into the teens by early evening with wind chills as low as zero by 7 PM. A low of 0 tonight, with wind chill values nearly 20 below by morning. Visibility could be decreasing with this combination of snow and high winds.
SUNDAY: An Arctic high pressure system builds into the area for Sunday. Sunshine returns, but we’ll stay bitterly cold with highs near 10. The frigid wind chill will still be a factor in the morning hours, but the winds will subside by the afternoon, eliminating those drastic wind chill temperatures for the later parts of the day.
EXTENDED: Temperatures will slowly climb early next week as we see a warmer weather pattern shaping up before Christmas with mainly dry weather next work week. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
