Suspect arrested for burglary on Santa Barbara Drive
UPDATE 12/12: Buchanan woke up the victim, Gloria Smith by shaking her shoulder while she was sleeping. Smith said that she was scared for her life, and the she had never met Buchanan before. Smith talked loudly to get the attention of other residents, and her son Shamande Smith came into her room to investigate.
Shamande Smith hadn’t met Buchanan either, and escorted him to the front door. Five to six minutes later, Buchanan returned and stood in front of the rear glass door with no pants on.
When he walked to the front door, he was found by deputies. Buchanan admitted to being under the influence of PCP, and he smelled of intoxicants.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Boone County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on Santa Barbara Drive for a burglary Sunday at 4:23 a.m.
The sheriff’s department said an intruder was reported inside the home. When deputies arrived, they found Charles M. Buchanan, a 25-year-old of Mexico, Mo., and arrested him.
Authorities said they learned Buchanan entered the home and assaulted one of the occupants.
Buchanan was arrested for burglary in the first degree, assault in the third degree, probation violation, a failure to appear and non-support warrants.
