Slick spots possible for morning commute Monday after rain and freeze
Mid-Missouri drivers will want to take it slow for the morning commute Monday.
ABC 17 Stormtrack Meteorologist Brittany Beggs says temperatures have fallen into the upper 20’s overnight. This comes after some rain Sunday evening.
The freezing conditions Monday morning could create some slick spots out on the roads. Our ABC 17 News crews report most of the roads are dry, but say they have seen some icy areas.
Drivers may notice any lingering puddles and water have turned to ice.
Emergency crews have already responded to at least one crash overnight in Boone County, although it’s unclear if it was caused by slick roads.
Columbia Public Works recently posted information about black ice and where it forms on its Facebook account.
It says black ice tends to form on roads that are less frequently traveled and on roads where trees line the sides. It also says bridges and overpasses are common spots for ice to form. The post says this is because cold air below and above the road make it freeze faster.
