Monday Evening, December 12
TONIGHT: Clouds look to increase tonight bringing overcast conditions. Temperatures will dip to the upper 20s before the next blast of arctic air returns on Tuesday. A slight chance of a rain/snow mix is possible near the Lake of the Ozarks and south to I-44 through the night. Main timeframe of the event is 3AM-7AM. It is very likely that with the dry air above the surface that very few flakes or rain drops will make it to the ground. Winds remain out of the North over night under 10 mph, with wind chill values in the teens.
TUESDAY: Morning commute could be a little slick for areas near I-44, that do end up seeing precipitation. Other than that the cold front associated with the wintry mix, will track southward. Clouds will be evident for the morning hours, but by late afternoon those clouds will be on the decrease as cold arctic air filters in. Highs near 30 degrees expected, with winds out of the north up to 15 mph keep wind chill values in the lower 20s.
EXTENDED: Once the Arctic cold front passes, a high pressure system will build causing freezing temperatures to engulf the Midwest from Wednesday through Friday. A warm front looks to lift by Saturday bringing temperatures to the mid 40s and a chance for rain and snow during the day. Model consensus is in agreement that beyond Saturday, temperatures take a nosedive once more, with the potential for single digit lows.
