Armed robbery in Boonville ends in vehicle pursuit and crash
UPDATE 12/12: The Boonville Police department has confirmed Alonzo Stevens was arrested in connection to the armed robbery. Stevens is currently in the Cooper County jail facing charges of robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, theft and resisting arrest.
Boonville Police also tell our crews they are still searching for two other suspects believed to be involved in the incident.
Columbia Police also report a vehicle was reported stolen off of Coats Street on Saturday night.
Boonville Police later called Columbia’s department and told them they had found the vehicle and it was involved in an armed robbery. ABC17 is still trying to confirm the two incidents were connected.
Stevens was previously charged with assault and carrying a firearm onto school property. He was sentenced to more than 5 years in jail.
UPDATE 12/11: Boonville police responded to an armed robbery Saturday around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Santa Fe Trail and Riviera Drive.
A victim told the police they were threatened with a handgun and property was taken from them.
Boonville police found the vehicle relating to the robbery and began pursuit. According to the police, the suspected car crashed at the intersection of Main Street and Poplar Street, disabling the car.
Police said the suspects ran away from the accident.
A K-9 unit was released and the suspect, a black male, was found in an area between Morningside Drive and Weyland Road hiding in a back yard, according to police.
The investigation is still on going. ABC 17 News will update information as soon as it’s available.
ORIGINAL: Cooper County Emergency Management said law enforcement was looking for people in the area of Morningside Drive, Krohn Street and Weyland Road Saturday night.
EMA said Boonville Police were searching for people from an earlier incident. Authorities are asking people to use caution and avoid the area if possible.
