Second Arctic blast may bring coldest air of the season
This past week, mid-Missouri experienced our first Arctic blast of the season. Temperatures plummeted throughout the week, with daytime highs only reaching into the 20s and wind chills in the single digits. These cold temperatures took a slight break over the weekend, but we are in store for a second wave of Arctic air by the middle of this week. By midweek we can expect to see some of the coldest temperatures yet this season. These frigid temperatures follow a record warm fall, making it even harder to adjust.
For the start of the work week, we will see more moderate and seasonal temperatures. This thaw won’t last long though, as the second Arctic cold front will be on mid-Missouri’s doorstep by Wednesday. Following the cold front, a high pressure system will build into the area, allowing for freezing temperatures to dominate the Midwest for the remainder of the week.
By Wednesday we can expect temperatures that are up to 15 degrees below average. Daytime highs will be dropping into the 20s, with lows bottoming out at 10 degrees. Wind chills will be falling into the single digits.
The Midwest isn’t the only area that is going to be affected by this Arctic air mass. Places as far south as Texas will experience below average temperatures thanks to this Arctic cold front. The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team will continue to track these drastic temperature changes throughout the week, keeping you updated on air and online.
