Lack of school resource officers in Boone County

The Columbia Public School District shares one resource officer between six middle schools and the Center of Responsive Education.

According to online reports, in 2016, there were 15 assault-type incidents between the six middle schools in Columbia.

There are three resource officers stationed at the high schools in Columbia.

Online reports show that in 2016, there were 16 assault incidents between three of the four high schools.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has four school resource deputies in total. Each deputy is in charge of the schools in southern Boone, Hallsville, Sturgeon and Harrisburg school districts.
