Columbia Public Schools: No mumps

Columbia Public Schools reassured families there have been no confirmed mumps cases within the district Friday.

This came after nearly 200 confirmed and probable cases at the University of Missouri since the start of the fall semester.

The district emailed information to parents from the health department about the virus, stating: “having information is important to reducing the spread of mumps in our community.”

If you or someone in your home experiences swelling in the cheek or jaw area, the health department encourages you to stay home and make an appointment with your doctor.

You are contagious for five days after the swelling begins.
