2016 Missouri gubernatorial election priciest election in state to date
The recent race to be Missouri’s Chief Executive saw more money received, and spent, than any other gubernatorial election in the Show-Me State.
According to the 30 day after the election reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission, Governor-elect Eric Greitens spent a total of $28.7 million. The report also shows the Grietens campaign ended this election cycle with just over $5,000 in outstanding debt, and just under $400,000 in money on hand.
Greitens opponent, Attorney General Chris Koster reported $28.8 million in total receipts, and total expenditures of $24.9 million for the campaign. The Koster campaign still owes just under $33,000 in outstanding debt, and has just over $135,000 in money on hand.
The day before the state’s new campaign donation limits went into effect, just about $3.2 million dollars were donated to state candidates. The new limits cap individual donations at $2,600, and $25,000 from a committee.
