Tuesday Morning December 6

TODAY: Light rain will continue to impact parts of Mid-Missouri east of HWY 54 through 7AM close to I-44 where under 0.20″ looks likely. Dense fog is also evident this morning where visibility will fall to 1/4 of a mile in spots. Freezing Fog is also possible, so we’ll need to watch for patchy slick spots on overpasses and bridges. By the afternoon hours, clouds will be on the decrease with sunny skies arriving by the middle of the afternoon. The breeze will pick up by late morning with winds gusting to 20-22 mph from 11AM through 3PM bringing a wind chill to the upper 20s, and low 30s.

TONIGHT: Skies look to be partly cloudy tonight becoming overcast in the night time hours. Temperatures will fall to the upper 20s with a northwesterly wind under 7 mph. Fog does not look to be much of a concern tonight in part to dry air at low levels.

EXTENDED: Along with this significantly colder air, there is a slight chance of snow Wednesday starting in the afternoon. During the day surface temperatures will be above freezing. Aloft temperatures will be cold enough for snow to develop, although accumulation doesn’t look likely during the day. Freezing temperatures look to move in by Wednesday evening with the best chance for minor accumulation from 4PM-10PM south of I-70, and north of I-44. A dusting to 1″ looks possible by Wednesday night. Temperatures will plummet to the upper teens Wednesday night, bringing a wind chill close to 1 to 5 degrees by Thursday morning. Friday morning looks to be the coldest this week with an air temperature near 10-15 and a wind chill of 0 in Columbia and possibly subzero north of I-70.
