No reported package thefts in Columbia or Jefferson City

With the holidays upon us, the number of deliveries are typically at their highest; and packages left unattended can be an easy target for theft.

ABC17 has seen multiple reports of people saying their packages were stolen from their doorsteps, but Columbia and Jefferson City police have not had any official reports filed.

However, Columbia Police did give some helpful tips to prevent theft from happening.

Here are the tips:

1. Make sure to be in contact with the company that is delivering the package and have the delivery set up to where you have to sign for the package.

2. Pick the package up from the delivery company

3. Give the delivery information to a trusted friend or neighbor and have them either stay at the house or watch for the package.

And if a package is stolen off your doorstep, make sure to file a report with law enforcement.

Throughout December, ABC17 will keep checking in with local law enforcement to see if any reports had been filed.
